The sexy and electrifying Janelle Monae is back in Toronto, after a whirlwind year to stardom for the young twenty-six year old musician.  Playing the Grammy Awards, hobnobbing with the US president, and playing with many other notable musicians.  For the first time, she is on a cross-Canada jazz festival tour.   The girl can sing, move, and dance.  There is something refreshing about Janelle Monae, who refuses to be typecast in a certain musical genre.  And opening the 2012 Toronto Jazz Festival places her in good company amongst a new wave of young talent, notably Monae, Esperanza Spalding, and Trombone Shorty.  Her live performance showcases a woman who is as stylish, as well as a first-rate performer.  A true talent and artist.
