OTTAWA’S HOPE VOLLEYBALL SUMMERFEST RECAP
Ottawa has a unique ‘see-and-be-seen’ event every summer in the HOPE Volleyball Summerfest at Mooney’s Bay Beach. Started 28 years ago, this charity beach volleyball tournament has grown every year since, and now represents one of the must attend summer events for the over 1000 registered teams, 10,000 participants and 20,000 spectators who just come down to the beach to see the volleyball, the bands and the bikinis!
The concert line-up this year was all Canadian! Hailing from Ajax, Ontario, Ska-punkers The Johnstones introduced Ottawa to it’s maniacal pace and high energy show – with trombones and a crazy style. These guys had the early afternoon crowd up on their feet, dancing to their infectious sound.
Local boys done good Hollerado played to their local fans who turned out in droves to see this quartet from down the road in Manotick. These indie-rockers have come along way since forming in 2007; winners of the most recent Live 88.5 ‘Big Money Shot’ band search, Hollerado has been touring non-stop since their victory and have matured into a tight live touring band.
By the time Canadian singer-songwriter Hawksley Workman hit the stage at 5pm, the Volleyball was over, and the crowd was well lubricated. This quirky, pop-rock performer was a crowd favourite and delivered a solid set with his 3 piece back-up band.
