OTTAWA BLUESFEST DAY 11: BLACKIE AND THE RODEO KINGS + GANGA GIRI + MOTHER MOTHER + NICK JONAS + JANE’S ADDICTION
Ottawa Bluesfest veteran Blackie and the Rodeo Kings played the Hard Rock Cafe stage on Saturday July 16th bringing together Colin Linden, Stephen Fearing, and Tom Wilson who started this venture as a one-off tribute to songwriter Willie P. Bennet.
Over the 12 years that they have been together, they have released 6 CDs. Their latest, Kings & Queens was a collaboration with legends such as Roseanne Cash, Emmylou Harris, Serena Ryder, Lucinda Williams among others.
Their performance on that day was outstanding and the audience were happy to welcome them back to the festival once again. Their audience continues to grow with each visit.

Ganga Giri played the MBNA stage at 7:00 PM on Saturday. The temperature was hot and the sun shining bright providing the particular sound of tribal beats, funky bass, and the unique sounding didgeridoo a perfect combination of sound, energy, and rhythms. While the audience that was present was small to begin with, it grew as their unique sound could be heard and enjoyed.

Mother Mother performed on the Subway Stage, playing their amiable folk-rock music with an alternative edge. The band, originating from Vancouver, started out as a family affair that grew to become a 3-part harmony.
The audience had the chance to hear tracks from their third full-length release, Eureka, as well as other favourites from the band.
The audience was subdued compared to the high energy at some of the other stages this evening, but overall it was a great performance.

Nick Jonas & the Administration performed at teh Ottawa Bluesfest delivering songs from their first full length, Who I Am, that was released last year. Nick Jonas definitely pleased all the girls who where there to get a closer glimpse of one of the Jonas Brothers!

Jane’s Addiction performed on the MBNA Stage delivering their alternative rock rendition of old favourites in a loud, raucous set led by frontman Perry Farrell while the rest of the band remained obscured, for most of the evening, only visible as Perry moved across the stage with the light following him throughout. Even the dancing girls only appeared as silhouettes against the backlit stage and chair which they used in their suggestive performance.
Dave Navarro, appeared shirtless, showing off his tattoos and piercings during the occasional moments where the stage lights rendered him visible. This served as no detraction to the music and his fabulous guitar performance. The group played a well orchestrated set that was well received by the crowd in attendance. The only surprise was the early end to the show, which left many wanting more…
