THE 2011 MMVAS MAKE HISTORY!

The 2011 Much Music Video awards started off on the edge, the edge of GLORY  that is – with Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga.  Climbing around her incredible set, hanging off of the rails and then sliding down a fireman’s pole onto the stage – she was electrifying, stunning and started everything off perfectly.  Days before bald, this night she was sporting electric Aqua hair.

After Gaga tore down the stage, Far East Movement, Dev and Snoop Dogg actually blew the entire crowd away. From bringing Snoop back from the dead, dancing medieval zombie maidens, confetti Cannons and hot drummer girls there was so much happening on the stage, taking it all in, I felt like I was watching something that’d be remembered in Much Music history.

Fefe Dobson was the biggest surprise for me, the set consisted of Motel Signs, Street Lights and a vintage car – which Dobson had no problem rocking out on top of.  Her performance was full of energy, passion and was visually stimulating. It seems this time around is the right time for Fefe, as she made an appearance singing a duet with Simple Plan on the Queen and John stage – she was one of the highlights of the evening.

Avril, Avril, Avril – What the hell? I understand you have a guitar in front of you. I understand you have to sing the song. I don’t understand the complete lack of energy, and movement. With a rough start and a statuesque performance, every shot of Avril Lavigne started looking the same after about 30 seconds. Then towards the middle, a smile appeared and the old Avril appeared just in time for the end of the song. Perhaps

The awards this year stepped up their game with Selena Gomez as co-host, alongside being a great young actress, she’s also a wonderful musician. Backed by her band the Scene, Selena belted her empowering softer, be proud of who you are song, Who Says. Selena’s main squeeze, Justin Bieber made a surprise appearance and you couldn’t help but swoon a little at the both of them when they were on the same stage.

Bruno Mars secured his place as a crooning heart-throb by performing his hit “Just the Way You Are” with a very 50’s feel set and performance. I found myself hanging on his every note, and being mesmerized with how smooth that man’s voice was.

Closing the show, Lady Gaga returned beginning her metamorphosis in a suspended cocoon singing the anthem of millions – Born This Way, emerging in an incredible black feather outfit, transforming down to a hot all black tight two piece outfit and green armpit/pubic hair. The woman can look beautiful wearing ANYTHING.

I’m just going to let the pictures do the talking, thank you so much to everyone at Much Music and MuchMusic.com for letting us be a part of this incredible award ceremony – we’re more than looking forward to next year, with each year getting bigger and better.
