KID ROCK’S BORN FREE TOUR HITS TORONTO

Kid Rock came into Toronto’s Air Canada Centre with guns blazing. His Born Free Tour is complete with everything a good rock n’ roll show should have: a big stage, pyrotechnics, lasers, a bar, and scantily clad dancers. For all the sensationalism though, “Kid” seemed to be trying to reassure himself from a lawn chair on stage that he’s not too old to be doing this. He turned 40 this year you see. That’s not too old when pointing out that “Springsteen is almost 60 and the Stones are almost dead”. And they’re still rocking. It was a convincing argument, and performance for that matter. A retrospective show saw old photos of Kid growing up, through the history of rock. Some recorded birthday wishes from John Stewart, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel. He can still move, running down the catwalk portion of the stage, down the middle of the crowd, and jumping at the right moments in songs. There were some quieter moments however too. Stools brought out for him and backup singers, a chandelier lowered towards the stage for some acoustic songs. Beavis and Butthead interrupted this on the screen:

I thought this was supposed to be Kid Rock, huh huh huh
Yeah, rock, rock, heh heh heh

With that the acoustic set was over and right back into the fire and lasers. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this show, but I was pleasantly surprised and entertained.

Kid Rock’s Born Free Tour hits Montreal and Ottawa before heading back to the U.S. All the details about his tour dates can be found here!
