TONY SLY BACK IN MONTREAL: THE CITY NEVER FAILS

In June 2010, Tony Sly (No Use For A Name) was is Montreal to play an acoustic show with Joey Cape (Lagwagon), at Foufounes Electriques (click here for the recap and photos from that show).

Sly was back again at Foufounes Electrique this past Sunday to play an acoustic set; alternating between songs from his first acoustic solo record, 12 Song Program, and from the NUFAN songs collection, he played for about 75 minutes. Tony Sly even played two new songs that will be on his second solo record, Sad Bear (Fat Wreck Chords), coming out this summer.

Even though it was an acoustic set, Tony Sly definitely made Montreal fans rock the place! Singing along during his whole set, requesting songs and getting them played by Sly, completing his songs by singing back vocals, fans surely wished the set was longer! The crowd showed its singing capabilities especially during the last song of the encore, where Tony Sly sang Joey Cape’s Montreal, where he needed help to sing the French chorus!

For all of you who are wondering if No Use For Name will be back with new material, the answer is YES! Continue to read for more info on that!

This past December, NUFAN and Fat Wreck Chords have announced that Matt Riddle was currently hospitalized: “Matt Riddle, our bass player, is in the hospital with severe pancreatitis. They need to operate. This past Sunday, Tony Sly dedicated the song “On The Outside” to him as he is currently still being treated.”

In lighter and happier news, as mentioned above, Tony Sly and his band mates will be releasing a new studio album. Though no specific dates have been planned, it has been said in an earlier press release that “No Use For A Name are working steadily on a new record. There has been some challenges making this happen due to Matt’s health scares resulting in repeat surgeries. Things are looking up now and with the new addition of Boz Riviera on drums (from The Mad Caddies) the band is sure to be back stronger than ever.”Supporting that information, after Montreal’s performance, Tony Sly updated his Facebook status by saying: “Montreal, you never fail me. Thank you. See you next time with No Use…”

Tony Sly’s solo acoustic show is definitely a MUST SEE!

If you live in the province of Quebec or Ontario, there are still a few dates left to his acoustic tour with opening acts Russ Rankin (Only Crime/Good Riddance) and Steve Rawles (This Is A Standoff/Belvedere). Click here for the tour dates.

I was at the show this past Sunday and brought back a few photos:
