Dance divas and techno pop lovers are feeling excitement over Britney Spears new CD “Femme Fatale” (Jive Records) that has dropped today. It’s the iconic global superstar’s seventh CD and she considers it her “best album to date”.

Hold It Against Me” was released as the lead single from the album, peaking atop of the charts in seven countries, including the United States and Canada. The album’s second single, “Till the World Ends“, was released earlier this month.

“Femme Fatale” has been released primarily in a standard (soft pack/wallet packaging) version, and a deluxe version (expanded soft pack with additional booklet pages), which will feature four additional tracks. A premium fan edition will also be released, including a limited edition 32-page hardcover photo book, the deluxe edition CD with exclusive artwork, a 7? vinyl picture disc with “Hold It Against Me” and the full album digital download on the street date. You can pre-order the premium edition now on her website.

Spears has described “Femme Fatale” as “moody, edgy pop with A LOT of energy” with “a few mid-tempos that could be considered ballads”. The CD has been well-received by most music critics all over the web. The keyword here is “most”. Me personally, I miss her days when she was singing “Stronger” and if I had to pick a favorite song on this CD, the only one that sits well with me is the last song on the deluxe version called “Don’t Keep Me Waiting”.

But again, this CD wasn’t really made with me in mind now was it? Spears is following the trend set by many other superstars in her field. She has further commented on the album stating, “I wanted to make a fierce dance record where each song makes you want to get up and move your body in a different way. That’s what I want from the music I listen to. This record is for the clubs, or something you play before you go out at night. It’s definitely my edgiest and most mature sound yet. [...] There are songs on this album that don’t sound like anything else and are completely revolutionary, but I also believe that this album expresses where I am today as a woman and is an evolution of who I am. [...] I think “Femme Fatale” speaks for itself. [...] I think it’s the best album I have ever made. There’s nothing to say. I’ll let the music speak for me.”

I am going to give credit where credit due though. Spears looks great and is peerless among her contemporaries. Throughout the years, Britney has consistently released hit after hit for over a decade, selling close to 70 million albums cumulatively worldwide. Only a few artists have earned the distinction of having five #1 debut albums, and 24 “Top 40” hits.  Spears most recently set a new one-day precedent for single sales with her current No. 1 hit song, “Hold It Against Me.”
