USS AT THE LIVE LOUNGE IN OTTAWA
We headed out to the Live Lounge Main Stage in Ottawa recently to check out Junkie and the Spider and USS, and were pleased to discover Silvergun and Spleen completely by accident…!
We’ve shot Junkie and the Spider previously this year, but the venue was not ideal for their dynamic show, so we asked them to keep us up to date on any future dates. Junkie came through with this show at the Live Lounge supporting USS.
We’re fans of the venue; Live Lounge Main Stage is a “swiss army knife” music venue in Ottawa. Some nights it’s the LL Main Stage, others it’s the Capital Music hall, and again others evenings it is branded the Parliament Ultra Club. Regardless, it’s great mid-sized live music venue with a full sized stage, professional lighting and sound. I’m happy to report that the organizers installed a very comfortable photo pit in front of the stage (my only complaint from a previous visit) – lets hope that a permanent addition!!
USS is a Toronto based electronics/alt-rock duo that are known for their endless energy on-stage. Great beats and fun lyrics (“Stationary Robbery” is one of their tunes – check it out…!) but you have to see these guys live to fully appreciate their stage show, which routinely involves repeated crowd surfing by the duo as well as the creation and consumption of a banana shake on stage near the end of the show.
You totally have to be there…
Junkie and the Spider, still flying high from their recent regional song writing win and the subsequent heavy radio rotation on a number of local stations, didn’t disappoint. Opening for USS, it was evident that a good portion of the crowd was there to see Junkie and USS was just a bonus. Junkie’s lead singer TJ anchors this band, but it is the original music that really catches you and keeps your attention. These guys are the real deal – talent, song writing and style; I hope we’ll see much more of them in the future.
We arrived just in time to catch the end of the set by Silvergun & Spleen. A local Ottawa quartet, I have to admit to no prior knowledge of this band. Fronted by two sisters, these guys have spent some time developing their image and style as well as their alternative hard-rock sound. No doubt we’ll be taking in another S&S show in the near future!
